The West Sussex Alternative Provision College are offering 3 unique and down- to-earth on demand webinars for parents and carers providing practical ways to have the best relationship with their children and teenagers.  The webinars offer an overview of child and adolescent emotional brain development, practical strategies and theraplay games to develop and maintain strong parent-child emotional bonds.

Parents and carers will learn about managing children’s anxiety, specific changes in adolescent mental health, challenging behaviours, sleep issues, bonding time, boundaries and more.

The trainer is Emma Connor, a Child Psychotherapist, MA, UKCP, Director, Consultant and Trainer for Your Space Therapies. Emma is a senior lecturer at the Institute for Arts and Therapy in Education as well as working in various schools providing therapy for children and therapeutic support for families.

This course provides a down-to-earth understanding of how children’s brains develop and what parents can do to boost healthy emotional growth and resilience. The practical strategies provided for children aged 2-10 help with anxiety, challenging behaviour presenting in anger and control, bonding, emotional regulation and therapeutic discipline.

Overcoming Overwhelm – In order to live, learn and love to our full potential (2 hours)

This course explains what happens to children’s brains and bodies when they experience extreme overwhelm. We explore ways to support parents manage their own anxieties in order to help their children and creative ways to listen and communicate well with children who are struggling with big feelings. Examples of therapeutic games, activities and strategies that will help calm, soothe and overcome anxiety are provided. For children age 2-10.

Adolescent Mental Health (2 hours)

Adolescence can be a challenging time for parents, carers and their young people. This webinar provides an overview of the ‘under construction’ adolescent brain and how to communicate, relate and discipline in therapeutic ways.
