Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are well, and your child is settling into the start of this new school year.

As you may recall, back in April we held a stakeholder consultation on the plan for West Sussex Alternative Provision College (WSAPC) to become an academy and join The Beckmead Trust, and I am writing to you today to update you on that.

As you know, at WSAPC we are dedicated to ensuring we provide the very best possible education and care for our students and have been looking at how we can continue to build on this mission and make what we do even better for the children and young people we support. That is why we began our discussions with The Beckmead Trust, an academy trust whose vision, values and approach align so closely with ours.

Beckmead provides high-quality education and care for young people with complex needs, including social, emotional and mental health conditions, autism and challenging behaviour. It offers a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment that supports its children’s needs and develops their talents, and rightly has a very good reputation. The Trust currently supports 10 schools in East Sussex, Essex and London, two of which are rated Outstanding by Ofsted.

After getting to know the Trust and its fantastic staff in the last few months, we are absolutely confident that joining Beckmead is the right decision for WSAPC – for our students, for our team and for you.

So I am really pleased to let you know today that the Department for Education has now given our plan the green light and that we will be joining forces, hopefully on 1st January 2024.

Joining Beckmead will allow us to work alongside the Trust’s expert senior leadership team to share knowledge, resources, and best practice. This ultimately means we can continue to provide the best possible education to all our students, positively impacting their outcomes and life chances. Please be assured that our ethos and what we stand for will not change, and nor will our admission arrangements or staff. We are really excited about what this means for everyone associated with WSAPC, and I hope you are too.

I will of course continue to keep you updated as this progresses but in the meantime, I would like to thank you for your continued support of WSAPC. Please, as always, if you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours faithfully,

Doug Thomas
